Srinagar, Jan. 22 -- An exchange of fire broke out between Indian and Pakistani troops in the Keran sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district during the night of January 20-21, defence sources said. The skirmish occurred when troops from the 6 Rashtriya Rifles were installing high-tech surveillance cameras in the Keran Bala area to bolster border security and eliminate blind spots along the Line of Control. Pakistani troops reportedly fired two rounds of small arms, prompting a single, calibrated retaliatory shot from the Indian side. While no casualties were reported by either side, the Indian Army has since launched a cordon and search operation in the dense forest terrain. Security has been tightened across the sector.
