In Punjab, Centre pushes for tech-based aquaculture
Chandigarh, Oct. 17 -- Union fisheries secretary Dr Abhilaksh Likhi on Thursday reviewed the implementation of various central government fisheries schemes in the state, with a focus on technology-based aquaculture, shrimp farming, and skill development.
During his visit to Fatehgarh Sahib district, Likhi interacted with fish farmers and fisheries entrepreneurs to understand their challenges, especially those related to recirculatory aquaculture systems and diversification in fish farming. Likhi was briefed on several innovative farming models adopted by local farmers, who have successfully converted wastelands into aquaculture hubs, creating employment and improving livelihoods in the region.
Likhi emphasised the need for technology-driven aquaculture, capacity building, and species diversification to enhance rural income and ensure long-term sustainability in the sector.
