India, Sept. 29 -- Singer Gurdeep Mehendi's new song, Sajri brings romantic Punjabi music to the fore, a rare track in the Indian music industry. It's a pivot from the music his father, singer Daler Mehendi and uncle, singer Mika Singh are known for. Not one to shy away from his familial connections, the singer explains, "When people come to know he's my father, they want me to sing his songs. I take it in a positive way as all his songs are iconic." He adds, "At the same time, I'm creating my own mark and am doing things differently. Not only him, but my uncle Mika is also a big part of Bollywood. But Sajri is different from their music." Talking about Punjabi music in Bollywood, Gurdeep admits that dance tracks steal the limelight, but adds, "However, every movie almost always has a Punjabi song nowadays." The singer shares, "I feel Bollywood is good at picking the right song at the right time for the right situation. Most of the time, they feel that having a Punjabi dance song will work well as promotional song for a film, making it stand out. I believe that is the reason why we have more of hardcore Punjabi dance number, in comparison, to softer or romantic music in the Hindi film industry."...
