India, July 19 -- The promise of quality higher education is immense, but it comes with its own challenges. Picking a path after high school or college accompanies massive uncertainty due to the sheer number of choices available. Predominantly, a student has to equally balance between three key aspects - their parent's expectations, their genuine passion or interest, and subjects which hold the maximum career potential. I believe that the trick is to remain impartial between what you love, practical choices, and what will eventually allow you to work anywhere in the world. Your interest should form the core of your choice. Take time to decide what you find absorbing. It could be technology, the local news, film and media, law or numbers. Your passion will eventually dictate your level of interest and without genuine curiosity, even the most vocationally viable programme will prove to be a struggle. Moving on, having that zeal and spark is great, but it isn't enough on its own. Your aspirations must align with the requirement for the real world and you have to assess crucial factors such as the demand for professionals in your chosen field and its earning potential. You must be aware whether your programme offers internships or is primarily focused on theory and assessments. Business analytics, cyber security and healthcare management are all examples of rapidly growing fields leading to strong career paths globally. Finally, you have to pay close attention to global opportunities, that is, where you end up working. Today, thousands of students aspire to study overseas as it provides access to professional opportunities beyond India. Destinations such as Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom have lucrative systems in place for post-study work or even residency, depending upon the demand for talent, thus opening up complete new avenues. At Silver Fern Education Consultants, we guide our students and their parents through these choices, paving a clear path to their future success. As industry leaders, we do not recommend or believe in giving out the same plan or advice to students. Instead, our counsellors pay close attention to each young student's interests, apprehensions, career aspirations, strengths and weaknesses before suggesting a school or a programme where they feel adequately comfortable. In a world driven by fierce competition, utilise the right guidance to clear your doubts and allow us the opportunity to point you in the right direction.HTC The author is the COO and partner at Silver Fern Education Consultants.
