Chandigarh, Dec. 29 -- As the Himalayan peaks prepare for their first significant winter snowfall, Northern Railways has inaugurated a special holiday "Toy Train" service on the UNESCO World Heritage Kalka-Shimla track. Launched this Sunday, the service is strategically timed to accommodate the anticipated New Year tourist influx. The special service is scheduled to operate daily throughout the peak winter season, concluding on February 28. Designed to provide a nostalgic journey through the frosted Shivalik ranges, the train consists of seven coaches: four general seating cars, one first-class composite, one first-class tourist car, and a seating-cum-luggage rake. As per the Ambala Division notification, the train is scheduled to depart from Kalka at 12.30 pm, arriving in the "Queen of Hills" by 6.20 pm, coinciding with the evening mist over the Ridge. The return leg departs Shimla at 8.20 pm and reaches Kalka at 1.10 am. To allow travellers to experience the colonial charm of the historic route, the train includes strategic halts at Dharampur, Barog, Solan, and Kandaghat. With hotel occupancy in Shimla surging for year-end festivities, this holiday special serves as a vital and scenic link for tourists seeking a Himalayan winter experience....
