New Delhi, Oct. 27 -- Delhi wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat and Sumit Mathur struck fifties to help the hosts post 430 before Himachal Pradesh responded strongly to reach 165/3 on Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group D tie at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground on Sunday. A century was missing but six half-centuries in the innings mirrored consistent batting. Resuming on 306/4, Delhi could add only 124 runs while Himachal pacers Vaibhav Arora (4/78) and Arpit Guleria (4/106) shared the last six wickets on the second day. Himachal opener Sidhant Purohit hit 70 after giving his team a solid start, but seasoned Delhi pacer Navdeep Saini (2/20) dismissed him late in the day. Himachal were 165/3 at stumps. Ajinkya Rahane struck 159 as Mumbai reached 406/8 at close against Chhattisgarh, their first innings still unfinished after a weather-hit second day at home. Rahane, who had retired hurt on 118 late on Saturday, returned to give the record Ranji champions late impetus. Karun Nair struck an unbeaten 174 to give Karnataka the upper hand against Goa in their Elite Group B match in Shimoga. Nair's prolific scoring for last year's champions Vidarbha was rewarded with an India recall after seven years, but he could not cash in on the England tour despite the batting tracks. However, he showed he remains a domestic force scoring his 25th first-class century. Karnataka, resuming on 222/5, finished on 371. Goa were 28/1 at stumps. Haryana and Services wrapped up victory in just two days. At Rohtak, Haryana completed a nine-wicket win over Tripura in Group C, their second straight win to log 12 points. Left-arm spinner Parth Vats took a match-haul of eight wickets as Tripura were dismissed for 126 and 47. Haryana, who made 158 in the first innings, had only 16 runs to chase and reached 18/1. In Tinsukia, Services dealt Assam the other defeat in less than two days. In a low-scoring affair that saw two innings completed on the first day, Assam were shot out for 75 in their second innings and Services, chasing 71 to win, eased to 73/2. Nagaland too found it too tough to deal with a strong domestic opponent. At Bengaluru, Tamil Nadu declared their first innings on 512/3 after Pradosh Ranjan Paul (201*) completed his double century. Vimal Khumar had hit 189 on Day 1. Nagaland were 150/4 in reply, still 362 runs behind. In Chandigarh, Maharashtra took a handy first innings lead against Chandigarh, scoring 313 and then dismissing the home team for 209. Maharashtra were 66/0 in their second innings.
