Chandigarh, Dec. 31 -- Punjab governor-cum-UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria paid a surprise visit to the Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, on Tuesday evening, accompanied by home secretary Mandip Singh Brar. Emphasising the need to strengthen maternal healthcare services, Kataria directed hospital authorities to enhance the capacity of the maternity ward. A dedicated maternal and child health centre is expected to become operational within the next four to five months. Kataria first visited the newly established emergency and trauma ward, where he interacted with patients to inquire about the medical facilities and the quality of services provided. He subsequently inspected the gynecology emergency department, the labor room, the maternity ward, and the neonatal intensive care unit.
