Gulmarg receives fresh snow, night temp drops across Valley
Srinagar/Dharamshala, Dec. 30 -- The ski resort of Gulmarg received fresh snowfall in north Kashmir while the rest of the valley witnessed cloudy weather on Monday, said meteorological centre.
The meteorological centre in Srinagar said that light snowfall was witnessed in the higher reaches of Gulmarg where temperature during the night dropped to -2degC. All the other weather monitoring stations across Kashmir had witnessed temperatures above zero during the night owing to the cloudy weather during the day.
The summer capital Srinagar recorded a minimum of 3degC while the Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir witnessed 0.4 degC on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The northern district of Kupwara on the LoC recorded a temperature of 1.8degC. The MeT has predicted rains and snowfall from Tuesday. "The weather will be generally cloudy with light rain and snow at many places towards late afternoon and evening on Tuesday," said MeT director Mukhtar Ahmad. From Wednesday, the MeT said, there are chances of moderate snowfall at many places.
The IMD Shimla office has predicted rain and snowfall in parts of Himachal from December 30 to January 2.
According to the IMD, light rain and snowfall is likely at isolated places on December 30 and January 2, while light to moderate rain and snowfall is expected at many places on December 31 and at a few places on January 1. With the expected change in weather, minimum temperatures in the high and mid hill regions of the state are likely to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours. Thereafter, they are expected to drop further by 2-6 degrees Celsius during the subsequent three to four days. While no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the next 48 hours, they are likely to decline considerably by 3-7 degrees Celsius during the following two to three days....
