Group attacks two youths in Zirakpur for bursting crackers
Mohali, Oct. 23 -- An 18-year-old youth and his friend were allegedly thrashed by a group of people, including women, for bursting crackers in Chhat, Zirakpur, on Wednesday. Both sustained injuries and were admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh.
The victims were identified as Sourav, 18, and his friend Hussain.
In his statement to the police, Sourav said, "We were bursting crackers when a group of people came and hit me on the head with a rod. They didn't give any prior warning."
Hussain, who owns a nearby grocery shop, said he was closing his store when he went to join Sourav.
"They told us not to burst crackers there, so we moved ahead. But after a few minutes, they came back and started beating us," he said.
Police said closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the area shows women also involved in the assault, and the matter is being investigated. Zirakpur station house officer (SHO) Satinder Singh said, "We are verifying the facts and examining CCTV camera footage. The case will be registered after the verification iscomplete."...
