Govt Model Senior Sec School teacher honoured by UT admn
Chandigarh, Sept. 17 -- Jyotsna, a teacher of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20-D, has emerged as a true game-changer. A dedicated educationist, she has not only achieved 100% academic results year after year but has also transformed the way students learn and grow.
Her vision goes beyond textbooks. Believing in holistic education, she equips her students with essential 21st-century skills through sports and co-curricular activities. A two-time national gold medalist in Judo, she uses her own journey of discipline and resilience to inspire. Under her mentorship, her students have bagged over 100 medals in state and inter-school championships.
When she joined her present school in 2023, she started building a Judo team from scratch. Within a year, the team won 10 medals. The winning streak continued with 19 medals in 2024, and this year, her students clinched 25 medals, including 3 gold, 7 silver, and 15 bronze medals. The school secured the U-17 Overall Boys' Championship and emerged runners-up in the U-19 Boys' category. She strongly believes sports empower students in multiple ways. "Girls are well equipped in self-defence, while boys channelise their energy in a constructive way," she says. Her efforts also help address the challenge of dropouts after 12. "Most students leave school due to paucity of funds. But if they win medals, they are eligible for scholarships ranging from Rs.30,000 to Rs.48,000 by the Sports Department. This makes them self-reliant and helps them continue their studies," she explains.
She gives credit to her Principal, Narinder Singh, whose encouragement and constant motivation push the team to strive for greater heights. Her journey reflects not just a career, but a mission-to educate, empower, and equip students with skills that last a lifetime....
