Goa fire accused Luthras to be deported to India today
PANAJI, Dec. 16 -- The Goa Police is expecting to secure by Tuesday evening the custody of fugitive entrepreneur brothers Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, who fled to Phuket in Thailand hours after a devastating blaze ripped through a north Goa nightclub owned by them earlier this month, a senior police officer said.
Meanwhile, the Bombay high court on Monday converted a civil suit against Birch by Romeo Lane, a nightclub at Arpora village in North Goa where the blaze claimed 25 lives, into a public interest litigation (PIL), observing "someone has to be held accountable in such kind of cases".
The Luthra brothers were detained by the Royal Thai Police in Phuket on December 11 following an intervention by the Indian mission, which is in close touch with the Thai government in the case. The Indian authorities have impounded their passports while the Interpol has issued a blue corner notice against them.
