Gangsters shoot trader dead for 'not paying' extortion money
AMRITSAR, Nov. 18 -- Unidentified gangsters shot dead a shopkeeper at village Dhoolka falling under Khilchian police station in Baba Bakala area of Amritsar rural for failing to give extortion money.
The deceased was identified as 65-year-old Manjit Singh, who ran a grocery store in the village. According to information, members of a gang, which is said to be active in the area, demanded extortion money from the deceased.
The victim's son, Lakhwinder Singh, said the gangsters were demanding an extortion amount of Rs.50 lakh and had fired gunshots on the night of October 26, but my father escaped narrowly. A few days ago, we again received calls from the gangsters for ransom money. On Sunday afternoon, my father was at the shop when the assailants reached there on a bike and started firing at him and fled. My father succumbed to the injuries on the spot", he added.
On the statement of Lakhwinder, a case was registered against unknown persons at Khilchian police station. Superintendent of police (SP) Aditya Warrior said police teams are scanning CCTV footage of the area to trace the assailants....
