Fuel, LPG supplies stable, people must avoid panic buying: Oil firm
Chandigarh, April 22 -- : Amid concerns over fuel availability triggered by the ongoing West Asia crisis, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) on Tuesday assured a normal supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG across Punjab, urging consumers to avoid panic-driven behaviour.
Addressing a press conference here, Ashutosh Gupta, executive director and state head of IOCL Punjab state office, said that the supply of petroleum products and LPG across the state remains stable and adequate, with no disruption in their availability. Gupta, who also serves as the state level coordinator for the oil Industry in Punjab, said that the stock position of Motor Spirit (MS) and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) is normal across the state. Sushant Kumar, state level coordinator (SLC), Chandigarh, and Parmeshwar, LPG in-charge for Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh, were also present.
The IOCL executive director said that OMC depots are maintaining healthy inventory levels, and retail outlets have adequate stock to ensure uninterrupted sales. There is no cause for concern regarding the availability of automotive fuels.
He further stated that OMCs have maintained uninterrupted LPG supply to households across Punjab, with cylinder deliveries continuing almost in line with pre-crisis levels. He said that customers are encouraged to use digital methods such as SMS and IVRS for booking refills. Currently, around 94% of bookings in Punjab are received through digital modes, while Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) compliance stands at approximately 91%. The all-India averages for digital booking and DAC compliance are 95% and 90%, respectively.
While some concerns have been raised on social media, OMCs are promptly addressing genuine issues and sharing timely updates through official communication channels, according to a company release. Complaints regarding malpractices by certain LPG distributors are also being taken seriously. It said that to curb black marketing and hoarding, multiple cross-functional teams have been formed to conduct surprise inspections of LPG distributorships across the state. Strict action is being taken against any errant distributors.
Additionally, OMCs are leveraging data analytics to monitor distributor performance and identify areas requiring intervention.
"These insights are also used to guide inspection activities. Close coordination with the state government in Punjab is ongoing to prevent malpractice and hoarding, with several enforcement raids already conducted," the IOCL said, urging customers to avoid panic booking or hoarding of LPG cylinders and not to rely on rumours....
