India, April 19 -- On January 25, 2016, Chandigarh played host to then French President Francois Hollande, who was welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rock Garden. Francois addressed Chandigarh as a "beautiful city" and termed it a "gift to India" by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier. It was the first visit of a head of state from France to the city. Hollande was the chief guest at the Republic Day event in New Delhi that year. A visibly impressed Hollande said in his speech: "Chandigarh is a creation of our architect. He put his vision and planning into action and came up with a marvel in India." Capitol Complex got the UNESCO heritage site status later that year....
