Four cops, undertrial killed in Aligarh crash
Agra, May 9 -- Five people, four policemen and an undertrial, were killed when a police van, in which they were travelling, rammed into a stationary container van on the Delhi-Kanpur highway in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, officers aware of the matter said, adding that another constable sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
The incident took place at around 8.15am near Chikawati village while the police team was transporting an undertrial, Gulshanvar, to the Muzaffarnagar court, they added.
"The other deceased were identified as sub-inspector Ram Sanjeevan, police van driver Chandra Pal Singh and head constables Balbeer Singh and Raghuveer Singh. Head constable Sherpal Singh is undergoing treatment at Jeevan Jyoti Hospital in Aligarh," said Sanjeev Tomar, the circle officer of Ghabana circle of Aligarh district.
"The police team was coming from Firozabad and was heading towards Muzaffarnagar for a hearing in a case for the undertrial," said Aligarh SSP Sanjeev Suman. "The exact reasons that led to the accident are yet to be ascertained. However, prima facie, it is feared that the driver may have fallen asleep and crashed into the stationary container van," Suman added....
