Panchkula, April 28 -- District police have arrested Rashpal Singh alias Lali, a former state-level kabaddi player from Tarn Taran, Punjab, with 538 grams of heroin. The accused, who already faces two criminal cases in Punjab including attempted murder and fraud, was caught by the crime branch, Sector-26 team near village Pyarewala on the Raipur Rani-Naraingarh road, on April 23 following a tip-off. The contraband was recovered from under the driver's seat of his Mahindra Bolero, which has also been seized. A case has been registered under Section 21C of the NDPS Act at Raipur Rani police station. Addressing a press conference on Monday, assistant commissioner of police (crime) Arvind Kamboj said the accused had been involved in drug trafficking for a long time, allegedly bringing heroin from Punjab to supply in Panchkula. He was initially taken on three days' police remand after being produced in court on April 24. Police later obtained an additional four-day remand to extract further information and trace his main supplier.
