Chandigarh, Feb. 24 -- Former judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court, justice VK Jhanji, 82, passed away on Monday. He was elevated as a judge of the high court in 1991. Justice Jhanji also served as the acting chief justice of the Jammu and Kashmir high court and retired in March 2006 from the Himachal Pradesh high court. Born in 1944, justice Jhanji, former judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court, enrolled as an advocate in the year 1971 and went on to have a distinguished judicial career spanning over three decades. Justice Jhanji was cremated at the Sector 25 cremation ground in Chandigarh on Monday evening. As a mark of respect towards justice Jhanji, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association (PHHCBA) observed a half-day strike and abstained from work following lunch on Monday.
