Sangrur/Barnala, Sept. 9 -- With the Ghaggar flowing above the danger mark for the past five days, the Sangrur administration has ordered closure of all schools in 26 villages till further orders, fearing damages to structures. Deputy commissioner Rahul Chaba said the action was taken as a precautionary measure amid the looming flood threat. District education officer (DEO) Tarvinder Kaur said school buildings had suffered minor damages so the institutions would be opened only after a proper assessment. According to a report, the school buildings which have been affected are primary schools in Changaliwala of Lehragaga block, Ramnagar Basti and Benra in Sangrur, and Dirba in Sunam-2 block. The villages situated close to the Ghaggar include Khanauri, Mandvi, Moonak and Kurail among others where schools will remain shut. In Barnala, out of 115 government schools, 16 have suffered structural damage. "This includes roof collapses, damaged boundary walls, toilet collapses and seepage. As many as 12 schools have reported seepage problems. The roof of a school collapsed," an official said. Education officials also said that the schools where relief camps have been set up for affected families, classes would be conducted only for those students who are set to appear in board examinations at the end of the academic session....
