Chandigarh, Aug. 2 -- Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said on November 25, the state government will organise a grand event in Kurukshetra to mark the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur. To spread the message of his teachings, four processions will be taken out from different parts of the state in the last week of October, which will conclude in Kurukshetra on November 25.HTC
The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday arrested a clerk of a private school in Sonepat for accepting a Rs.30-lakh bribe on the behalf of a Delhi Police inspector. The cop, Sunil Jain, has also been arrested, along with clerk Sandeep Kumar. The school is owned by the cop's brother, said police. The complainant had alleged that the cop demanded Rs.1 crore to remove his relative's name from an FIR.HTC
Doaba Kisan Committee held a dharna outside the deputy commissioner's office here on Friday, demanding immediate release of the outstanding payment to cane growers. The organisation's state president Jangveer Singh Chauhan said the Punjab government had failed to pay subsidy worth Rs.133 crore to the farmers. Chauhan said last year, 632.69 lakh quintals of sugarcane was produced, which was crushed by nine co-operative and six private sugar mills, but the majority of payments are still due.
