Exercise 150 minutes a week to keep your liver healthy
Chandigarh, April 19 -- At least 150 minutes' exercise or any physical activity in a week is recommendable for everyone for a healthy liver. In the case of obese and diabetic patients, more than 300 minutes of exercise in a week would be best, said Dr Sunil Taneja, hepatologist at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). With this year's world liver day theme being "solid habits, strong liver," Dr Sunil Taneja emphasised on making simple daily choices that can safeguard liver health. According to Dr Taneja, adopting four key habits: balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, no alcohol intake, and routine liver check-ups-can significantly lower the risk of liver disease.
Although the maximum number of liver affected patients coming to PGI consist of 30 to 50 years of age group, Dr Taneja highlighted the problem of Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) that is fatty liver in simple terms, is common in all age groups as obese and person with diabetes have higher chances of having fatty liver.
