Sangrur, Dec. 12 -- A day after the chief electoral officer exempted booth-level officers (BLOs) from poll duty in the December 14 Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections, the secretary of the State Election Commission on Thursday cancelled the exemption. Sangrur additional deputy commissioner (Development) Sukhchain Singh Papra, who is among the officials who received the latest directions, confirmed the development. As a result of the fresh order, all BLOs have been instructed to immediately report back to their assigned poll duties. An official said the exemption of BLOs from poll duty was sent really late on December 10 when the duties had already been assigned. State election officer Raj Kamal Chaudhary could not be reached for a comment....
