Ex-bureaucrats raise concerns on SC orders on environment
New Delhi, Dec. 29 -- The Constitutional Conduct Group (CCG), a collective of former civil servants belonging to the All India Services and the Central Services, has raised concerns about recent Supreme Court orders on matters relating to environment protection, including the Aravalli hills issue.
The open letter, issued by 79 former civil servants on Sunday, points to three recent judgments: the Supreme Court's November 18 decision recalling its previous order that halted retrospective green permits; the November 20 verdict accepting the new definition for Aravalli hills; and the November order barring the government from disbanding the present Central Empowered Committee (CEC) without the top court's permission.
"Three recent orders of the Supreme Court have led us to fear that the last bastion meant to uphold the constitutional provisions to protect and conserve our natural world and the right to life of the people of India is crumbling before the onslaught of rich and powerful vested interests," the CCG said.
The collective said that the three judgments are "against the interests of the Indian citizen and the conservation of nature in our country"....
