New Delhi, May 16 -- A ceremony due to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan for foreign envoys, including Turkey's new ambassador Ali Mursat Ersoy, to formally present their credentials to President Droupadi Murmu was deferred on Thursday, officials said. "The credential ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan which was to be held today has been deferred due to scheduling issues," said the external publicity division of the ministry of external affairs on the matter. A spokesperson for Rashtrapati Bhavan also confirmed the same. The development comes amid mounting tensions between India and Turkey over the latter's diplomatic and military ties to Pakistan. Ersoy was among the envoys expected to present his credentials to President Murmu, people aware of the matter said. Turkey's newly appointed envoy previously served as the country's ambassador to China between 2013 and 2017. He has also served in Washington DC, Athens and London in the course of a 34-year career.
