Emergency services active despite docs' strike in Panchkula
Panchkula, Dec. 11 -- General healthcare services across Panchkula remained affected for the third straight day on Wednesday due to the indefinite strike by government doctors. Despite the disruption, the district health department said it has kept all emergency and critical care services operational.
Dr RS Chauhan, principal medical officer at Civil Hospital, Sector 6, said, "The ICU, MLC and post-mortem unit are fully functional, and surgeries are being carried out in the main operation theatre," he said.
To manage the increased workload, the hospital has also brought in doctors, including specialists from Mullana Medical College.
The Haryana Civil Medical Services Association intensified its protest after a two-day strike failed to secure progress on its demands, which include stopping the direct recruitment of senior medical officers and implementing the modified assured career progression scheme. The state government has invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act and ordered salary deductions for doctors participating in the strike.
