Sangrur, Dec. 10 -- Farmers associated with Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ekta Azad, under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), removed electricity meters from villages across the Sangrur district in an agitation against the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025. The move comes four days after KMM's initial two-hour railway track blockade agitation against the same bill on December 5 in which hundreds of leaders were taken into preventive custody and were released later in the day. The farmers assert that these meters are unacceptable to them and that they would escalate the agitation if required action is not taken. Sinder Singh Badrukhan, a leader of BKU Ekta Azad stated that the call was by the senior union leaders of KMM instructing the removal of the meters. He stated the campaign is active in 27 to 28 villages with a target to clear the area by Wednesday and collect 25 to 30 metres on the current day alone. These meters are slated for submission to the SDO office on Wednesday....
