India, Jan. 1 -- After an eight-year hiatus and multiple false starts, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is finally set to launch its flagship housing scheme in Sector 53 in February 2026. The project, first proposed in 2018, was initially scrapped after exorbitant pricing-up to Rs.1.8 crore for 3BHK-deterred buyers. However, the current administrator revived the proposal in late 2024. What it means: This marks the first major housing launch since the 2016 Sector 51 scheme. However, the road ahead remains challenging; a 35-40% hike in collector rates since April has pushed costs upward, threatening to replicate the pricing issues that killed the 2018 iteration of the project. What next: The CHB is currently finalising the zoning details and seeking the necessary approvals to auction the private pocket. With the official launch scheduled for February, all eyes are on the final price list to see if the flats remain within reach of the middle-class and UT employees they are intended for....
