ED attaches properties worth Rs.9.87 crore
Jalandhar, Sept. 11 -- Enforcement Directorate (ED), Jalandhar Zonal Office, has provisionally attached immovable properties and stocks worth Rs.9.87 crore belonging to Vikas Bhandari, Bhupinder Singh, Ritika Bhandari, Karam Singh, and Gurdeep Singh under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, in connection with money laundering investigation related to the guava orchard compensation scam.
The ED spokesperson said the investigation was initiated based on an FIR registered by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau against Bhupinder Singh, Vikas Bhandari, and others under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 1988.
"Investigations have revealed that private persons in connivance with government officers availed wrongful compensation in lieu of guava orchards shown on a land which was to be acquired by GMADA, for setting up a residential project near IT city in Mohali," the spokesperson said. "To get maximum compensation, guava trees were shown on the land where none existed. For the said purpose, the above-mentioned persons connived with revenue officials, horticulture development officers, and forged revenue records and prepared favourable reports," ED said.htc...
