Patna, Aug. 3 -- Amid the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, the Election of India (ECI) on Saturday announced that all eligible voters in the poll-bound state would be provided with new voter ID cards. "All eligible voters would be given new identity cards. Therefore, all electors are being requested to provide their new photographs to their booth level officers (BLOs) by September 1, 2025," ECI said in a press note issued on Saturday. The development comes a day after the poll body published the draft electoral rolls for Bihar after the conclusion of the first phase of SIR. The publication of the draft rolls marks the end of the enumeration phase, which required all existing electors in Bihar to submit forms and documents. "Many electors have not put their latest pictures in the enumeration forms. So, they have time to submit it with the BLOs," an official in the state election department said on anonymity. Over the next month, electors and political parties can file claims and objections over the inclusion or exclusion of voters in the draft rolls of the poll-bound state. On Saturday, ECI said that not a single claim or objection has been filed by any political party in the first 24 hours since the draft rolls were published. "From August 1 (3pm) till August 2 (3pm), all political parties put together, have filed 'Zero' claims and objections for the addition of the names of eligible electors and deletion of the names of ineligible electors," the press note said. The poll body also announced that it would double the remuneration of booth level officers (BLOs), enhance remuneration for BLO supervisors and provide honorarium to electoral registration officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs). "Besides, this, the Commission had also approved a special incentive of Rs.6,000 for BLOs for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) starting from Bihar," ECI said in a press communique....
