Driver denies abrupt halt, woman's aides attack bus, passengers
Hoshiarpur, July 26 -- A group of armed miscreants assaulted a bus driver, conductor and several passengers, including a Punjab Police constable, at a bus stop near Dasuya in Hoshiarpur district on Thursday night, following a dispute over a passenger drop-off.
According to sources, the incident occurred when a private company bus halted at a designated stop to let a woman passenger disembark. Reportedly, the driver had earlier refused to stop the bus before the official halt for the woman passenger, allegedly upsetting her as she had to walk a longer distance to reach home.
Angered by this, the woman is believed to have contacted her acquaintances, the sources said. "Soon after, around 15 armed men intercepted the bus near Dasuya and smashed its windows and front windshield, forcibly entered the vehicle, and attacked the driver and conductor. Several passengers who tried to intervene - including a police constable - were also thrashed," a source said.
The constable claimed that his uniform was torn during the attack. A video of the incident is making rounds on social media.
The bus driver has been admitted to the local civil hospital for treatment....
