Doctor arrested for raping patient on medical college campus in MP
Bhopal, June 20 -- A 35-year-old doctor has been arrested for allegedly raping a patient on the campus of a private medical college in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district, police said on Thursday. Another case has been registered after an intruder tried to sexually assault an MBBS student on the same premises, police added.
According to police, the Dr Roopam Jain had called a 17-year-old girl to his flat on the pretext of a check-up and counselling, when he allegedly raped her on Tuesday. He was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
In the second incident, an unidentified person allegedly entered the girl's hostel on the same premises and tried to rape an MBBS student on Tuesday night.
The student pretended to be fainting and asked him to fetch water, police said.
When he went to get water, she escaped. The intruder, however, managed to flee, police said. A second FIR has been registered and a probe is underway, he said, adding as many as 10 special teams have been formed to investigate the two cases....
