Do fibroids cause complications?
India, Nov. 22 -- Fibroids are non-cancerous growths in the uterus that affect many women during their reproductive years. While some cause no symptoms, others can lead to heavy periods, prolonged bleeding, pelvic pain or infertility.
Untreated fibroids may cause anaemia due to excessive blood loss and increased urinary frequency from pressure on the bladder or rectum. They can affect fertility or complicate pregnancy by causing miscarriage or preterm delivery.
Lately, we have seen a rise in formation of cancers in long standing or rapidly growing fibroids. Hence a word of caution is mandatory. Routine ultrasounds are a must.
Modern treatment offers several options - from medications and minimally invasive procedures to advanced laparoscopic or robotic surgery, depending on the fibroid's size, number, and location.
It is possible to remove even large-sized fibroids through laparoscopy and save your uterus in our unit.
Any woman experiencing persistent heavy bleeding, pelvic discomfort, or infertility should consult a gynaecologist early. Timely treatment can protect reproductive health and improve quality of life
