Dist court orders relief for Nuh farmers
Nuh, July 4 -- The Nuh district court has directed compensation for cultivators whose standing crops were damaged due to illegally constructed roads in Basai Meo in Ferozepur Jhirka. The order issued on July 2, also calls for strict disciplinary action against the district revenue and consolidation officer, for alleged collusion and negligence.
The case emerged following a suo motu action initiated by the deputy commissioner based on long-pending litigation before the Supreme Court and subsequent reports from the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), highlighting severe environmental violations and illegal road activity along the Haryana-Rajasthan border in Nuh district.
An inspection conducted by the district administration on May 15 and May 24 confirmed that four roads were illegally carved through agricultural land under the guise of the consolidation scheme outlined in The East Punjab Holdings (Consolidation and Prevention of Fragmentation) Act, 1948. Investigations revealed that two of these roads were constructed by private individuals in collusion with the former sarpanch of Basai Meo, even before the formal completion of the consolidation process.
Locals informed the court that these roads, particularly one leading to the Anjani Mata Temple in Rajasthan, served no agricultural purpose but were frequently used by dumpers and trucks transporting illegally mined stones. Villagers, including Hanif, Israil, Jumma, Badruddin, Hussain Khan, Zafaruddin, Chunnilal, and Imran, deposed before the court, expressing concerns about damage to their crops. In his order, deputy commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena directed the cancellation of all such illegally constructed roads. The naib tehsildar of Ferozepur Jhirka has been instructed to assess the crop losses from the 2024 kharif season and unsown rabi crops, with compensation to be recovered as land revenue arrears from the former sarpanch and the consolidation officer involved....
