BATHINDA, May 27 -- Twenty-four days after being released on bail by a Bathinda court in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case, the Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested the sacked senior Punjab Police constable Amandeep Kaur on Monday for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income. She was arrested with 17.7 gm of heroin from Badal Road in Bathinda city on April 2 while driving in a black SUV. VB arrested Amandeep on Monday from her friend's residence at Badal village in Muktsar. A spokesperson of VB said that the accused will be produced in a Bathinda court on Tuesday. In an official statement, VB said that a corruption case was registered against the accused at the VB police station in Bathinda range following an inquiry into a complaint. On April 22, director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said in Faridkot that Bathinda's senior superintendent of police (SSP) had requested the VB to investigate Amandeep's assets. During the investigation, details of her movable and immovable properties acquired between 2018 and 2025 were scrutinised, along with her salary, bank accounts and loan records, reads the statement. "Probe revealed that Amandeep had a total income of Rs.1.08 crore during the check period while her expenditure stood at Rs.1.39 crore, which is Rs.31 lakh more than her known sources of income. This amounts to 28.85% beyond her legitimate earnings,' a VB spokesperson said. The spokesperson added that based on these findings, the VB registered a case under Sections 13(1) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station, Bathinda range. A resident of Chak Fateh Singh Wala in Bathinda, Amandeep is already facing a police probe, and her arrest in the drug case led to speculation about the involvement of higher officials of the police department. Sleuths from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) have also questioned Amandeep's associate Balwinder Singh, a co-accused in the crime. Gurmeet Kaur, a resident of Bathinda, had alleged that Amandeep had an extramarital affair with her estranged husband, Balwinder Singh and co-accused. Balwinder is in judicial custody. Officials said Gurmeet had tipped off the Bathinda police and the anti-narcotics task force (ANTF) about Amandeep's alleged involvement in the drug trade, after which she was arrested with heroin. Following a go-ahead from the competent authority, dismissed cops' movable and immovable assets worth Rs.1.35 crore have been frozen under the Smugglers and foreign exchange manipulators (SAFEM) (Forfeiture of Property) Act. "Financial investigation initiated by the Canal Colony police station found that the abovementioned properties were allegedly acquired by Amandeep in her name out of illegal income earned through drug trafficking," reads the property forfeiture order.As per the information, the forfeited assets include a residential building worth Rs.99 lakh in a private colony in Bathinda, a residential plot worth Rs.18.12 lakh, and a Rolex watch worth Rs.1 lakh. "Her bank account at a nationalised bank having an amount of Rs.1.01 lakh has also been frozen by the local police," the officials added....
