India, Aug. 18 -- The world knows him as the voice behind the global hit Big Dawgs, but Bengaluru-based rapper Hanumankind is still navigating the shockwaves of sudden fame. His new project, Monsoon Mixtape, reflects this journey, which he describes as "the universe unfolding in very unpredictable ways". It was Big Dawgs - with over 100 million views on social media, 400 million streams on Spotify and a No. 9 spot on the Billboard Global 200 - that catapulted him into the spotlight almost overnight. But the journey to the moment was anything but that. Long before the song's success, the 33-year-old, who is originally from Kerala, was laying the foundation and slowly carving out his space in the Indian hip-hop scene. A key turning point came at NH7 Weekender in Pune, December 2019, where he performed at his first music festival. "That was the moment I decided I was going to do music," he recalls, adding, "I didn't know if I was going to succeed. but I realised I'd rather do this than anything else." The emotional turbulence of sudden fame is what powers Monsoon Mixtape. "These are bits and pieces of my journey. me testing things out, feeling things out. There's a wide range of sounds and emotions in there, because they're all from different spaces I was in before I came to where I am now," he says. Despite his sudden rise, Hanumankind insists that nothing about his creative process has changed. "If you look at the videos before Big Dawgs, you can see we've been doing this for a while. The intent was always there. The song was just a by-product of what we'd been doing consistently," says the singer whose real name is Sooraj Cherukat. Through the chaos and recognition, the singer-songwriter insists that one thing has remained steady: writing. He says, "I just try and make sure that I write, that's all. I write as much as I can. this is the one thing that has given me life. No matter where I am, I'll keep doing it." And while fame might open doors and the world now knows his name, Hanumankind remains grounded. "That [fame] is not going to change what my intention is and what my life source is," he ends....
