Dhanashree on Chahal's 'Be Your Own Sugar Daddy' T-shirt

hen it comes to celebrity divorces, it's often the side stories that steal the spotlight. For cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer-influencer Dhanashree Verma, it wasn't the verdict that grabbed headlines in February, but Chahal's choice of outfit. Turning up for his final hearing in a T-shirt that read "Be Your Own Sugar Daddy," the leg-spinner set gossip mills buzzing.
Months later, Dhanashree has finally broken her silence, admitting she was blindsided by the move. Speaking to Humans of Bombay, she said, "I still remember when I was standing there and the verdict was about to be given. Even though we were so well-prepared mentally, I got so emotional. I started howling in front of everybody. I couldn't even express what I was feeling at that point. He (Chahal) walked out first, and I just kept crying." What stunned her even more, however, was the T-shirt. Dhanashree revealed she only learnt about its impact later when videos went viral. "Before I had even known that this T-shirt stunt had happened, we were all aware that people were going to blame me for this. When I saw it, I thought - 'Are bhai, WhatsApp kar deta. T-shirt kyun pehna hai?'" she recalled.
The couple, who first connected during the lockdown when Chahal signed up for Dhanashree's dance lessons, tied the knot in Gurugram in December 2020. They separated in June 2022, and by March this year, the family court granted their divorce by mutual consent, with an alimony settlement of Rs.4.75 crore.
Meanwhile, Chahal - who is rumoured to be dating RJ Mahvash - has also spoken recently about the personal toll of the separation, admitting he struggled with anxiety, depression and even suicidal thoughts. He said being unfairly labelled a "cheater" after the split only deepened the trauma. HTC...
