New Delhi, Oct. 26 -- Delhi openers Arpit Rana (64) and Sanat Sangwan (79) raised a century partnership to take the hosts to 306/4 on Day 1 of their Ranji Trophy Group D match against Himachal Pradesh on Saturday. Skipper Yash Dhull struck 61 although the trio could not convert their effort into a century. Ayush Doseja was batting on 51 at stumps. Delhi had started strongly by taking the innings lead in the drawn opening game against Hyderabad. Ajinkya Rahane rescued Mumbai with an unbeaten 118 to carry the home team to 251/5 at stumps against Chhattisgarh in another Group D game. Rahane, stripped of captaincy this season, raised a 165-run partnership with Siddhesh Lad (80). Although he retired hurt, Rahane is expected to return after Sarfaraz Khan fell for one run late on Saturday. Though the Chhattisgarh pacers were not really quick, there was nip off the surface, and the ball gripped for the spinners due to the dampness underneath. Rahane, at No.3, was initially shaky but the experience showed as he battled it out. As his fourth wicket stand with Lad grew, Mumbai, from 97/3 at lunch, added as many runs without losing a wicket until tea. Although Mumbai's grip on the match was not as firm after Lad and Sarfaraz fell, Rahane will be back fresh on Sunday. Ruturaj Gaikwad struck 116 to help Maharashtra score 313 all out against hosts Chandigarh in Group B while Karun Nair's 86 not out took Karnataka to 222/5 against Goa at Shimoga after Arjun Tendulkar's 3/47. Twenty five wickets tumbled at Tinsukia as Assam (103 and 56/5) and Services (108) looked set to finish their Group C tie in two days. Services' Arjun Sharma and Mohit Jhangra achieved a rare feat as both took hat-tricks to rout Assam in the first innings. Brief scores: In Vizianagaram: Baroda 230/6 vs Andhra.
