Chandigarh, Sept. 26 -- The Indian Air Force (IAF) has planned a regal send-off for the last of its iconic MiG-21 fighter jets in Chandigarh, the very city where the aircraft was first inducted into its combat fleet in the 1960s.
The decommissioning ceremony at the Chandigarh air force station will feature Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, chief of the air staff, and a woman fighter pilot Squadron Leader Priya Sharma, among others.
MiG-21s belonging to IAF's Squadron No. 23 will fly for the last time in two formations. The event is open only to defence personnel and their families.
In view of this, traffic restrictions will be in place in some parts of the city from 1.30 pm to 3 pm. According to the advisory issued by police, traffic will be regulated from 3BRD to Kali Bari light point; on Purv Marg from Kali Bari light Point to Transport light point; on Madhya Marg from Transport light point to Sector 7/26-19/27 roundabout; and on Sukhna Path from Sector 7/26-19/27 roundabout towards Golf Club turn up to Punjab Raj Bhawan from 1.30 pm to 3 pm....
