Darpan City residents stage protest over overflowing garbage
Mohali, April 11 -- Residents of Darpan City, Kharar protest a dharna at the dumping ground, on Friday after garbage remained piled up for several days and foul water began entering their houses. Protesters stopped garbage-laden vehicles at the site, saying the situation had become unbearable.
Residents said the newly constructed boundary walls at the dumping ground had already developed cracks and become crooked. They demanded that the garbage stacked against the walls be removed immediately and that the new walls be rebuilt as full RCC structures to prevent future collapse. They also sought proper roads and drainage channels connected to the wall so that wastewater can flow out and not accumulate near their homes.
Protesters announced that the sit-in would continue until the administration takes concrete steps to remove the garbage, and rebuild the walls properly....
