Daily wager arrested for dumping stillborn child in hospital bin
Patiala, Aug. 28 -- The Patiala police on Wednesday arrested a man for dumping his stillborn child in a medical waste dustbin at Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala.
Police said that the dustbin was then emptied into a dump yard inside the hospital premises, from where the stray dog is believed to have picked up the dead baby and was seen carrying its severed head near Ward number-4 of the hospital on August 26.
Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said that the father, identified as Girdhari Lal, has been arrested.
"He is a daily wager and had placed the stillborn child in a dustbin at the hospital. He has told cops that he didn't have enough money to cremate the body. He had wrapped the body in a black polythene bag before placing it in a dustbin," the SSP said. "We have arrested the father under section 94 (offense of concealing the birth of a child by secretly disposing of its dead body) of BNS," the Patiala SSP added.
Elaborating on the incident, doctors at the hospital said that the mother, Tara Vati, had given birth to a stillborn child on August 25 evening at 6:25pm.
"The baby had died in the womb in the 20th week of the pregnancy," the doctor said, pleading anonymity....
