Daduwal urges Centre to implement Punjab's anti-sacrilege law across nation
Rohtak, April 27 -- Baljit Singh Daduwal, chairman of Dharam Prachar, Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) on Sunday met Haryana's former chief minister and Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Delhi and submitted a memorandum demanding implementation of Punjab's anti-sacrilege law across the country.
The Punjab government had notified "Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026", after receiving assent from Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria on April 17. The Act imposes strict punishments, including up to life imprisonment and fines up to Rs.25 lakh, for the desecration of the Sikh holy scripture. In a press statement, Jagmeet Singh Brar, assistant to Daduwal, said that a meeting was held between Khattar and Daduwal regarding the anti-sacrilege law enacted by the Punjab to ensure respect for 'Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji' and to punish those guilty of sacrilege.
"A stricter law should be enacted by the Centre and the same can be implemented across the country," he said, adding that Daduwal requested Khattar to apply Punjab legislation across the country....
