Dehradun, May 7 -- A special task force (STF) on Tuesday arrested the key accused, Baba Anoop Singh, in the Nanakmatta Gurudwara Kar Sewa chief Baba Tarsem Singh murder case, from Haridwar, police said. On March 28, 2024, Nanakmatta Gurudwara Kar Sewa chief Baba Tarsem Singh was shot dead by two men- Amarjeet Singh alias Bittu (38) and Sarbjit Singh (45) -- on a motorcycle in Nanakmatta town of Udham Singh Nagar. According to police, he was shot twice with a rifle by Amarjeet Singh who was riding a pillion. He was taken to the hospital 15 km away in Khatima where he later died. After his murder, the state government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident. Eleven teams were formed to solve the case. With Baba Anoop Singh's arrest, the number of people arrested in the case is now 10. Senior superintendent of police (STF) Navneet Singh said, "Until now, 9 accused had been arrested in the case. Baba Anoop Singh, the key accused, had been absconding since the murder of Baba Tarsem Singh. We arrested him from Shyampur police station area in Haridwar. A bounty of Rs.25,000 was announced by the Udham Singh Nagar for his arrest."According to the police, Anoop Singh, a native of Rampur, was also the Kar Sewa chief of Nawabganj Gurudwara in the same district of Uttar Pradesh. In March, the police arrested Sarbjit Singh after an encounter in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar, following his escape from custody. He was initially arrested in Punjab on March 25 and was being transported to Udham Singh Nagar when he escaped on March 26 after the police vehicle overturned due to a tyre burst in Kashipur. Amarjeet Singh alias Bittu, who long criminal history and was even booked under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act in Rampur of Uttar Pradesh in 1991 for allegedly giving shelter to terrorists and sloganeering in support of Khalistan, was gunned down in an encounter by special task force and Haridwar police which took place in Haridwar on April 9, 2024....
