Cops bust fake antacid unit in Capital; 2 held
New Delhi, Oct. 27 -- The Delhi Police have busted a fake antacid manufacturing unit operating in north Delhi's Ibrahimpur area and arrested two people involved in the operation. A large stock of counterfeit ENO products, packaging material, and machinery was recovered from the site.
Police said UK-based pharmaceutical company GSK plc, the original manufacturer of ENO, had approached them earlier this month with a complaint about bulk production of fake ENO in the city.
Acting on specific inputs from sources and retailers, a team raided a rented premises where the accused were replicating the brand's packaging and manufacturing process, officers aware of the case said.
According to police, during the raid, they seized 91,257 sachets of counterfeit ENO, 80 kilograms of raw material, 13.080 kilograms of printed rolls, 54,780 stickers, 2,100 empty packets, and a machine used for filling and packaging.
DCP (Crime Branch) Pankaj Kumar identified the accused as Sandeep Jain, 45, the unit owner, and Jitender alias Chotu, 23, the machine operator.
"Both were remanded to two days' police custody for further investigation to trace the syndicate's network," he added....
