Cop accused of stealingRs.55L, gold surrenders
Barnala, Nov. 10 -- A police constable accused of stealing Rs.55 lakh cash and 141 gm gold from the treasury of the Barnala police station surrendered before the chief judicial magistrate's court in Barnala on Friday, officials confirmed.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Satvir Singh said on Sunday that the accused, senior constable Harpreet Singh, hails from Bhadaur and had been on the run for the past two months. "The accused has been taken on police remand. We are probing how and where he used the stolen money. The total value of the stolen items would be known after proper investigation," said the DSP.
The FIR was registered under Sections 331(4) (house trespass) and 306 (theft by a clerk or servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in August of this year, on the complaint of sub-inspector Manpreet Kaur....
