Chandigarh, April 30 -- Cool easterly winds blowing in from the Bay of Bengal have arrested the rising temperatures in the city, bringing the much-needed relief from sweltering heat. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature dropped to 35.9degC from Monday's 38.5degC, still 1.6 degree above normal. In further respite for residents, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms in the city from Thursday onwards. IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul said strong low-level easterly winds from Bay of Bengal in the last 48 hours had caused the temperature to dip, adding that from Thursday, there were chances of rain and thunderstorm for next three to four days.
