Patiala/Sangrur, Sept. 6 -- Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday flood-hit areas along the Ghaggar river and said building concrete embankments to channelise water was the only way forward to save hundreds of villages in Patiala and Sangrur from the fury of floods. The SAD chief visited villages along the Ghaggar in Shutrana, Lehra, and Moonak constituencies. He also visited the Tajpur, Arnetu, and Harchandpura bundhs in Shutrana besides Makror Sahib in Lehra and Moonak. Asserting that it was unfortunate that the second phase of the channelisation of the Ghaggar from Makror Sahib to Karail was left in limbo by both the previous Congress and the current AAP government, Badal said: "In the first phase of the project, the Ghaggar was channelised over a 22.5km stretch from Khanauri to Makror Sahib during our tenure". Badal said it was unfortunate that both the centre and the state government had failed Punjabis at a time of extreme crisis....
