Dehradun, Sept. 21 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday visited disaster-hit areas in Nandanagar block of Chamoli district to assess the damage and inquire about the well-being of affected residents, officials said. The chief minister handed over cheques of Rs.5 lakh each to families of the deceased and directed officials to expedite the relief and restoration and leave no stone unturned in its timely completion. During the visit, Dhami conducted a field inspection of the villages of Kuntari Laga Phali and Kuntari Laga Sarpani, and an aerial survey of Dhurma, Mokh, Kundi, Bansbara, and Mokhmalla villages, reviewing the impact of the disaster and relief measures. He said that relief and rescue operations were being carried out on a war footing. "The government stands fully with the affected families in this hour of crisis," the chief minister said, while directing officials to ensure prompt restoration of basic amenities, electricity and drinking water supply, and road connectivity in the affected areas. Heavy rain triggered mudslides, landslides, and flooding in Kuntari Lagaphali, Kuntari Lagasarpani, and Dhurma villages of Nandanagar in the early hours of Tuesday. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and revenue departments were rushed to the spot. Seven bodies were recovered on Thursday and Friday as rescuers continue to search for two missing people. In Kuntari Lagaphali, five bodies were recovered. In Kuntari Lagasarpani, two bodies were recovered. Chamoli district magistrate Sandeep Tiwari said that 12 injured people had been airlifted to higher medical centres --- one to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh and 11 to medical college in Srinagar. "So far, 45 buildings and 15 cow sheds have been completely destroyed in Kuntri Laga Phali, Sarpani, Dhurma, Sera, and Mokh. Eight animals have died, while 40 remain missing. Detailed survey and relief work, including provision of food, shelter, and healthcare, are ongoing," he said. District in-charge minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, MLA Tharali Bhupal Ram Tamta, district panchayat president Daulat Singh Bisht, BJP district president Gajpal Bartwal, SP Chamoli Sarvesh Panwar, SDM RK Pandey and other officials accompanied Dhami during the inspection....
