Chandigarh, June 27 -- Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday said his government would not spare anyone involved in the drug trade, declaring that it is now the turn of the "big fish" to face the consequences of their actions. Addressing the media here, Mann said that while small-time smugglers acted as distributors, the real kingpins had long evaded accountability. "Now, their time is up, and action will be taken against them, no matter how influential they may be. No mercy will be shown in the matter of drugs," he said, a day after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in a disproportionate assets case. Mann, who did not name Majithia during his press conference, claimed that "substantial evidence" had been collected against those arrested, including records of their alleged dubious transactions. "Another big fish will be nabbed in the coming days," he said, promising exemplary action to serve as a deterrent to others. Taking on Opposition parties for condemning the VB action, the CM said they kept saying that the government was not catching the big fish, but then started crying political vendetta. He said the arrest had exposed the unholy alliance among traditional political parties on this issue, claiming that their actions had devastated the state. The SAD, Congress and BJP leaders in Punjab had slammed the AAP government on Wednesday for the raid at Majithia's residence, alleging vindictive action to suppress the voice of those criticising the ruling party and its leaders.
