Class 11 student killed at college playground in Gorakhpur, 2 held
GORAKHPUR, Dec. 27 -- A Class 11 student has been shot dead after assailants entered the playground at the Cooperative Inter College in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur, police said on Friday, adding that two accused have been detained and two others are on the run. Police said the attack occurred around 1.30pm when 17-year-old Sudheer Bharti, a resident of Munderi Garhwa village, was at the college playground with his friends.
According to witnesses, an argument broke out between Bharti and the accused at the playground during which the accused took out a countrymade pistol and fired at him and he died at the spot.
Gorakhpur senior superintendent of police Raj Karan Nayyar said the argument reportedly occurred over a mobile status post. "Around 1.30pm, the accused allegedly arrived at the college and opened fire on the student, killing him on the spot. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and further probe is on," the SSP added.
The victim belonged to the Dalit community, while assailants are suspected to be from the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, said an officer aware of the matter, adding that the victim and the accused are residents of the same village.
Pipraich station house officer (SHO) Madan Mohan Mishra said, based on the complaint filed by the victim's father Rajesh Kumar, police have registered a first information report (FIR) against four identified -- Vinay, Dayanand alias Chhotu, Umesh Roshan and a minor -- and three unidentified accused under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.htc...
