Chandigarh, April 1 -- In a swift administrative action, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) on Tuesday reclaimed possession of a shop in Sector 61 that had been allegedly occupied illegally by a liquor contractor. According to officials, Shop No. 24 had been forcibly taken over by liquor contractor Kulbir Singh, who had earlier applied to rent the premises. However, his application was rejected by the Housing Board. Despite this, he reportedly began using the shop to store liquor stock and was preparing to open a liquor vend at the site from April 1. Acting promptly on the complaint, the Housing Board dispatched a team on Tuesday evening to evict the occupant and secure the premises. The shop has since been taken back under official control.
