Meerut, May 13 -- Over two months after Saurabh Rajput, who worked in the merchant navy, was brutally murdered, police in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh filed a nearly 1,000-page charge sheet in a local court on Monday, naming his wife and her lover as main accused.
The charge sheet was filed in the court of additional civil judge (senior division) Anuj Kumar Thakur by inspector Ramakant Pachauri under sections 103 (1) (punishment for murder) and 238 (A) (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), an officer said.
The charge sheet, quoting 34 witnesses, names Rajput's wife Muskan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla - both 27 - as the prime accused in the murder case that made national deadlines for the gruesomeness of the crime, police said.
Rajput, 29, was killed on the night of March 4 at his rented house in Meerut days after he returned from London where he worked in the merchant navy at a US-based shipping company.
